Ugh. I hate how garbage like this becomes popular, and how people actually believe whatever random claims some products make.

I had a school mate in elementary die of some sort of cancer linked to that radioactive pottery that was an issue (or the glaze was radioactive, something like that.) That stuff is no joke...

Snake oil is nothing new. We have an entire federal agency going back to 1906 (FDA) whose job it is to separate out real stuff from bullshit.

Fiestaware! The Orange was the most radioactive.

Unfortunately it still doesn’t catch all the garbage.

Ummmm...I thought you were joking but I looked up Fiestaware....I had no idea. I have some Fiestaware!

Not the way it’s intended to work,as regulatory agencies have no where near the budget to “catch” products. If it’s not approved, you can’t say it will be beneficial for your health without a disclosure statement that it may be bullshit. These things have to say either nothing or “these statements not evaluated by the FDA” or some such. But the "FDA Approved" is supposed to act as a gold stamp,so to speak, to ensure quality and benefit.

Yeah, I get that. It’s just a shame that these snake oil salesmen can’t be nailed by something else. Or sold with a huge fat disclaimer, like cigarette packages. Although I suppose that still doesn’t stop people from smoking...

That’s pretty much all we use. Granted it's not vintage

I agree with you, absolutely

How much if this pottery did he own? That some serious exposure. Or he was just unlucky. Northern arizona is filled with naturally occurring uranium. I’ve probably breathed in quite a few meals work of fiestaware.

Mine isn’t either. I looked up the date codes. Interesting to learn about that today, though.

You might be surprised by how many every day products have radioactive materials in them. Radon in granite countertops, for example. The key is exposure and dose.

Oh I'm very familiar with radon, being built on grant. Remediation is on our todo list

I was surprised to find in my classes that Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US. The first being smoking. Absolutely nuts how good the earth is at killing us.
